Are you exporting PATH after modifying it?
$ export PATH=$PATH:$(cygpath -u C:\\JDK\\bin)
$ echo $PATH
$ java -version

cygcheck output may help you along the way. :-) If you attach the output
from `cygcheck -svr' as a *non-compressed* plain-text attachment.
